SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

In March, staff was pleased to be able to share with the Board the master plan for the final phase of Erie Community Park. Planning for the final phase of this park began in April 2017 when the Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with Design Concepts to begin initial design work. This master plan is the culmination of a multiyear planning process that has involved the community, staff and the design consultants. The master plan encompasses approximately 12 acres and offers a balance between passive and active recreation uses including amenities such as fitness trails, basketball courts, sensory gardens, outdoor reading rooms, shaded picnic areas and gathering shelters.  The Board adopted the master plan at its March 10, 2020 meeting.

With the master plan adopted, the project team is ready to begin working to produce design and construction documents. Design Concepts has been the landscape architect firm since the project’s inception in 2017 and will complete the remainder of the design documentation process.  Once this phase of the project is complete, staff will come back to the Board seeking approval to appropriate funds for construction.  Our intent is to begin construction in 2021.

The design and construction of this project will be funded from the Parks Improvement Impact Fund. These fees are collected from residential development projects and must be used to construct new park amenities for community use. The 2020 Town budget includes funds for this project.
