SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

Staff is pleased to be able to share with the Board a draft master plan for the final phase of Erie Community Park. This master plan is the culmination of a multiyear planning process that has involved the community, staff and design consultants from Design Concepts. Planning for the final phase of this park began in April 2017 when the Board of Trustees authorized an agreement with Design Concepts to begin design work. The initial master plan encompassed approximately 5 acres and offered a balance between passive and active recreation uses displaying amenities such as fitness trails, basketball courts, sensory gardens, outdoor reading rooms, shaded picnic areas and gathering shelters.

Since 2017, the Town has been able to secure additional acreage around the park site expanding the design footprint to its current size of 12 acres. Staff re-engaged with Design Concepts to update the plan and display additional amenities that were suggested by the community during the initial planning stages. The expanded site is now able to accommodate additional parking, a sculpture and net climber, enhanced play areas, additional shade shelter plaza, restrooms, bike pump track, and sledding hill.

Staff recommends the Board of Trustees approve the master plan for the final phase of Erie Community Park as presented by Design Concepts. Upon approval of the master plan the team will move on to completion of construction documents. Once the construction d...
