Approve the expenditure of up to $120,000 for construction of a storage barn on the Allan Farms Open Space property.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Town's Parks and Open Space operations continue to grow through the internal purchase and acquisition of open space land, and through park and open space land that is dedicated to the Town as part of the residential development process. Last year alone the Town's parks and open space grew by more than 100 acres; and additional 10-15 acres will be added this year. This growth has resulted in a need for more storage facilities at various locations throughout Town. Staff also sees a need for better storage capabilities for our contracted agriculture farmers to more effectively store their seasonal equipment and alfalfa/hay production. Last year, staff identified the Allan Farms open space as a suitable location to add a large prefabricated storage building that could house the Town's equipment and mowers, and temporality store the agricultural production until it is sold. The portion of the building used for agricultural storage would be subject to a rental fee that would be paid monthly by our contracted ag farmers.
