SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The 2020 adopted budget includes the purchase of new and replacement fleet units. The Capital Budget includes purchasing a new and a replacement dump truck. Each unit is evaluated on the basis of age, mileage, and maintenance cost. Dump trucks are used for a variety of tasks including snow removal (plowing and anti-icing), debris removal and hauling (from clean up and street sweeping), materials handling and spreading (road base, recycled materials, asphalt). Shouldering machine hook ups for using the existing shouldering machine on roads without curb & gutter are also employed.

The first unit is a hook lift dump truck. An additional dump truck would relieve pressures on snow routes as well as deliver the same level of service that we have been providing during snow season. A hook lift gives increased versatility to switch from a dump bed to sander with one operator and is equipped with the same components and controls as the newer dump trucks. The use of a single axle relieve the wear and tear on the pick-up trucks with plows that are not as suited to moving large amounts of snow.
