SUMMARY/KEY POINTS
* The Public Art and Placemaking Plan establishes public art and placemaking as a strategic investment in Erie's identity.
* Staff will introduce the Public Art Program, its guiding process, and the role of the Cultural Arts Supervisor in advancing consistent, high-quality, and place-based projects.
* Staff will outline near-term opportunities and funding recommendations to implement art that reinforces Erie's character, supports community pride, and enhances public spaces Townwide.
BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
In 2023, the Town of Erie partnered with Designing Local to create the Public Art & Placemaking Plan, which establishes public art and placemaking as the next investment in Erie's identity and sense of place. The plan draws from extensive community engagement and clearly articulates how public art can reinforce Erie's character as welcoming, family-centered, playful, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings and history, while helping the community stand out among peer Front Range communities. In 2024, the Town hired its first Cultural Arts Supervisor to implement the plan, steward the Public Art Program, and align future investments with adopted priorities, best practices, and funding strategies.
