Policy
POLICY ISSUES:
A Site Plan with a Special Review Use must go to Planning Commission for a recommendation and then Town Council for the final decision.
Recommendation
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff finds that the Erie Police Department Station Expansion Special Review Use and Site Plan applications comply with the Approval Criteria and recommend the Planning Commission make a recommendation of approval to Town Council with the following condition:
The applicant shall make all necessary technical corrections and update all application materials prior to the Town Council hearing as directed by Town staff.
Body
SUMMARY/KEY POINTS
* The Erie PD Station is a Special Review Use (SRU) in the Community Mixed-Use (CMU) zone district. An expansion of the existing use requires an updated SRU approval, along with a Site Plan application.
* The building expansion includes a roughly 17,000 square foot addition with an expansion of the parking lot, new fencing, and other site improvements.
BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The Erie Police Department (EPD) constructed the current building in 2014, following a Town Site Plan and Special Review Use application approval in 2013. The EPD organization has expanded since that time in relation to ongoing growth of the Erie community. The EPD facility is now insufficient in size and requires expansion to accommodate the growing EPD force and civilian staff.
