Summary and Background of Subject Matter:

At the request of the Airport Economic Development Advisory Board (AEDAB) and the Board of Trustees, staff requested proposals from multiple qualified firms to perform an analysis of alternatives to provide better access to the Erie Municipal Airport (EIK). The options considered include (1) constructing a new entrance from Arapahoe Road, (2) an entrance aligned with a new road coming through the Parkdale development (Monroe St), (3) using an existing low-water crossing near from the business park directly west of the north end of EIK (South Main St), and (4) other alternatives identified by the consultant.

RockSol Consulting Group was chosen among three proposals from qualified firms. Board members may recognize RockSol as the firm that performed design and construction management of the Erie Parkway Bridge Expansion project. Tim Tuttle and Rudy Parks of RockSol will present the findings of this evaluation as well as the preferred alternative.

Fiscal Impact:

None at this point, but the consultant estimates constructing the preferred alternative would cost around $8 million dollars. Staff will discuss various approaches to funding this expense if the Board wants to pursue constructing a new access to the Airport.
