SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The National School Choice Week organization began in 2011 to raise awareness of effective K-12 education options for children. The organization is a nonpartisan and nonpolitical non-profit organization that focuses equally on traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online schools, and homeschools.
The organization works to research and develop web-based resources to assist parents better understand their school choice options and navigate the process of finding schools or learning environments that best meet their children’s needs. They also partner with tens of thousands of schools, homeschool groups, and organizations to raise broad public awareness of school choice and of the importance of opportunity in K-12 education.
Each January there is an annual celebration, which features tens of thousands of independently planned awareness events and activities, such as school fairs, parent information sessions, student talent showcases, and open houses. Town of Erie has been requested to show support for these efforts by proclaiming January 23-29, 2022 School Choice Week in Erie.
