SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

On December 7, 2020 Governor Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 20B-001 into law which provides “…License Fees, Application Fees, Renewal Fees, and COVID-19 Modification Fees for the STATE Licensing Authority will be waived for eligible licensees from December 7, 2020 through December 7, 2021.” (Please see State Bulletin 20-27 attached to this agenda item.) The action taken at the State level is intended to provide relief for small businesses that continue to suffer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To further assist Erie’s small businesses, on December 19, 2020 Malcolm Fleming, Town Administrator, signed an Emergency Order waiving certain Town of Erie local liquor licensing fees from December 7, 2020 to December, 7, 2021. The Town Administrator took this action under the authority of Section 1-8-6 of the Erie Municipal Code. Approving Resolution 20-010 will ratify the Town Administrator’s Emergency Order.

Currently the Town issues roughly 30 liquor licenses for businesses and in 2020 collected $6,887.50 in revenue from license renewals and new applications.
