SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Erie Police Department and the St. Vrain Valley School District have jointly developed a School Resource Officer (SRO) Program to provide a school-based approach to foster a positive relationship between students and police officers and help prevent youth delinquency, alcohol and substance abuse, and gang involvement. Such programs are recognized as being effective in promoting a positive relationship between the police, faculty, students and parents in preventing delinquency and promoting school safety.

Fiscal Impact: The attached 2020-2021 Intergovernmental Agreement outlines the duties and responsibilities of the Police Department and the School District, desired outcomes, and related administrative and financial responsibilities. The Agreement is in principal a continuance of previous year’s agreements and commitment to the SRO Program.
