SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The 2020 Work Plan tasks staff with completing a review of broadband options available to the Town of Erie. The background on this task is that in 2017, the Town commissioned Vantage Point Solutions to complete a Broadband Assessment and Feasibility Study to explore municipal broadband networks and detail options to improve broadband connectivity in the Town. That Study identified multiple options, but recommended against building a full Fiber-to-to-Home Network serving all residents. In 2018 Town voters approved a referendum allowing the Town to pursue various broadband initiatives.

With tonight’s presentation staff will review the conclusions of the Study with the Board and ask the Board to clarify what options the Board wants to pursue.
