SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
On even numbered years the Town of Erie holds its regular municipal election for Trustees and Mayor, additionally a portion of the Town’s advisory board seats are up for reappointment. The newly seated Board then reviews applications and makes appointments for the open seats on the advisory boards. The timing of certifying the election and seating the new Board causes a delay in these appointments which is only an issue with the Planning Commission. To alleviate this issue the proposed ordinance updates the Planning Commissions terms of office to remove the requirement to appoint new commissioners at the first meeting of the Board of Trustees following the April election.
