SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
Since 1985, Americans have celebrated Park & Recreation Month in July to promote the importance of parks and recreation in health and wellness, conservation and social equity, and to recognize the thousands of park and recreation employees that maintain our nation's local, state and community parks. Park & recreation services are vital for our communities - from protecting open space and natural resources, to helping fight obesity and providing activities and resources for all walks of life. Parks & Recreation Month encourages everyone to reflect on the enormous value parks and recreation bring to communities.

The 2020 theme for National Parks & Recreation Month is "We are Parks & Recreation." In numerous ways during the past few months, the Board of Trustees, Town residents and Town staff have recognized and demonstrated the importance of parks & recreation facilities and programs. Parks and trails have given us opportunities to remain active, both physically and mentally. Essential programs run by parks and recreation staff have continued to support our community.

In celebration of Parks & Recreation Month, staff will be hosting the fourth annual Medallion Hunt. The first clue will be posted Monday July 13 at 10:00 a.m. on the Erie Parks & Recreation Facebook and Instagram pages. Participants who find the medallion will win a gift basket with fun summer items the whole family can enjoy.

We look forward to serving Erie residents this summer and beyond as we do our part building community through the delivery of exceptional parks...
