SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
Background:
A significant portion of the Town's water system in the Vista Ridge area, as well as proposed development to the north of this area is served by a pump station. From a reliability standpoint this is not ideal, a failure of the pump station could result in a loss of water service to this large area. The Town's Water Master Plan has long contemplated a 500,000 gallon water storage tank be built in Broomfield, a mile and a half south of Vista Ridge. The cost for this tank and related transmission line is estimated at roughly $2 million. The reality of obtaining approval, land and easements for this infrastructure is questionable.

For this reason staff proposed an emergency interconnect with Broomfield in 2017, whereby a valve vault would allow for water from Broomfield's water system to be delivered into Erie's system in an emergency situation and vice versa. Erie currently has emergency interconnects with Lafayette and Left Hand Water District. Recently the interconnect agreement with Left Hand was revised to allow for interconnection throughout the respective service areas vs. at locations where vaults are in place.
