SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
In recent years, the Parks department has found success in using a seasonal fleet rental program to supplement Town-owned vehicles during the spring and summer months. Additional seasonal staff and increased workload during these months creates a higher demand to efficiently transport staff and supplies between their assigned work-zones. Without access to additional vehicles, staff is reliant on being shuttled back and forth between locations which is an inefficient use of time and resources. The rental program is a creative option that allows staff to scale up and down vehicle use in concert with our seasonal hiring program.
The 2020 approved budget appropriates $41,000 to cover costs for five rental trucks for the months of April through September. Staff most recently requested bids for this service in 2019. Enterprise submitted the most responsive bid which included competitive pricing, local customer service and state of Colorado government discount. Based on the previous success of this program, staff would like to recommend continuing with Enterprise in 2020.
2020 rates presented by Enterprise are acceptable to staff and will provide the appropriate number of vehicles for the 2020 season within appropriated funds.
