SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
In the fall of 2017, the Board of Trustees and town staff realized a need for more bicycle parking in downtown Erie. It has been the Town’s and Board of Trustees vision to create a dedicated and attractive space for bicycle parking downtown and give residents more options for bicycle parking. Completion of the plaza will encourage alternative forms of transportation to the downtown area and help alleviate vehicular parking issues. Town staff worked with Wenk Associates to develop the site rendering and prepare construction documents in conjunction with the linear trail project.
The Bike Plaza construction documents are now 100% complete and staff is prepared to move forward to the bidding process. Wenk Associates has provided a schedule of probable construction costs in the amount of $64,313.83. Working with the Finance Department, staff has determined that funding for this project should come from the general fund and therefore requesting a new appropriation in the amount of $64,313.83.
Once funds are appropriated the project will move forward with construction beginning in fall 2018.
