Approve Resolution authorizing said purchase, authorizing the purchase and authorizing Staff to expend funds.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
20 hand held, dual band Harris radios were purchased in the fall of 2013. Since then, the department has grown and the cost to provide/purchase additional Harris handheld, dual band radios is no longer cost effective. In addition, several of our handheld, dual band Harris radios have been broken, radio chargers have become inoperable and purchasing new batteries is also expensive.
Benefits of changing over to Motorola handheld radios include:
• Cost is a key factor, Motorola handheld, single band radios cost less than half the price of a Harris handheld, dual band radio.
• Motorola and Wireless Advance Communications is the certified communications vendor for the Town of Erie Police Department and other municipalities in the State of Colorado.
• Our Police Fleet has mobile Motorola radios thus simplifying programming.
• We conducted tests in the field and the Motorola, handheld, single band radio provided the best coverage in the schools and throughout the Town.
