SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

With the increase in retail outlets in the town, the number of shoplifting cases prosecuted in the municipal court has increased. The existing provisions related to shoplifting are poorly written and in need of updating.  The proposed ordinance revises the shoplifting provisions of the Erie Municipal Code and will help to make enforcement easier.
