SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Town of Erie Parks Division extends a thank you to the Boulder County Youth Corps (BCYC) for their service on various projects to the Town’s Parks, Open Space and Trails throughout this summer. We are very proud of the excellent work that each corpsmember contributed for the benefit of our community!

About Boulder County Youth Corps:

The BCYC provides opportunities for Boulder County teens to develop a sense of community involvement through personal accomplishment, teamwork and service to the county. Since 1996, participants, aged 14-17, have been completing projects for Boulder County departments, municipalities and towns. Corpsmembers benefit by learning strong work habits, new skills and the value of environmental and civic stewardship. County departments, municipalities and towns benefit from the maintenance projects and tangible products such as new trails built by Corpsmembers each summer.

Overview of BCYC Town of Erie 2017 Services:

The BCYC, led by Team Leader Jordan Regenie, consists of: Bel Gajdys, Miranda Lorenzo, Alex Miller, Chloe Rader, and Adam Wilk. They have been hard at work this summer on the following projects:

Resurfaced the playground at Reliance Park

Detailed trash sweep of 4+ miles of Coal Creek Trail and Open Space Corridor

Mechanically treated 3 acres of Open Space for noxious thistles

Re-stained signs and pergolas at Erie Community Park

Assisted with ¾ miles of brush removal from central Erie drainage canal

Re-painted Long’s Peak Park picnic pavilion

Assisted in renovations to the Town of Erie “Welcome” sign off I-25 and Erie Parkway

At the 02/14/2017 Board of Trustees meeting, the BOT approved resolution 17-051, which authorized an inter-governmental agreement with Boulder County for 2017 Youth Corps services (BCYC) in the amount of $13,750.
