SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The 2016 Parks & Recreation, Parks Maintenance Division operating budget has an overall surplus of funds available as of the end of October. It is being proposed that these funds be made available for the purchase of a John Deer Utility Tractor.
The request for the purchase of this medium duty utility tractor is being brought forward now for the following reasons:
* This request for an additional tractor has been included initial 2017 budget request; if approved for purchase with the available 2016 funds the 2017 capital request would be reduced by $36,000.00
* Currently the Parks Maintenance Division only has one heavy duty tractor and it is necessary to change out tires when switching the type of work the tractor is used for
* The Town's inventory of trails, open space, and turf acreage has increased and it is becoming increasingly difficult for staff to juggle equipment to complete required maintenance duties
If approved, having two tractors in the inventory will provide the opportunity to have one tractor dedicated open space and one dedicated to turf maintenance. Dedicated tractors will lead to less staff down time waiting for tractor availability and/or time spent changing tires needed for specific duties.
