SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Board approved the purchase of a new dome structure in May 2015. The new structure was installed and houses ice slice material used in snow removal as well as a storage area for maintenance parts. The main door is 25’ wide by approximately 20’ tall in size and is currently opened and closed manually. The weight of the door makes it challenging to open and close for one person on a normal day and even more difficult to open under weather conditions in a snow storm.

During a snow storm if another staff member is not available to assist, the door is left open allowing the weather elements to enter the dome. Purchasing and installing this motor will allow one staff member to be able to open and close the door as needed. This will improve efficiency in manpower and safety.

The 2016 Budget allows for purchase of a motor, subsequently Staff requested a quote from Sprung Instant Structures, Inc (Sprung) for the purchase and installation of a motor to automate the door operations. A quote was only requested from Sprung as they are the manufacturer of the structure and therefore a preferred vendor for all parts and additions. Power has been installed to the site to allow for installation. The installation should take approximately two days.

Staff recommends purchasing the door motor from Sprung.
