SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
Over the past year Parks & Recreation staff has been diligently working to complete construction on Erie’s newest park amenity - The Boneyard at Reliance Park. We are excited to announce we now have an estimated completion date of mid-August and so have scheduled our grand opening celebration. The event will take place on Wednesday, August 24 from 4:00 - 6:00pm and will include an appropriate “ribbon cutting” ceremony to officially open the dog park, a thank you to all of our sponsors, giveaways, dog friendly events, and vendors.
The Boneyard will open with three off leash areas; one for large dogs, one for smaller dogs, and a training area. The overall dog park will have over 40 trees, crusher fine trails that meander through the native grasses, dog play features, pet waste stations, covered and non-covered benches, a large shelter covering a picnic table, and “fido” fountains in both the large and small dog sections.
We could not have gotten this project completed without the support of our many donors and sponsors. To date approximately $40,000 in cash donations has been raised, with another $20,000 in materials and services donated.
