SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: At the May 10, 2016 Board of Trustees Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the design contract for the design of a Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) Building located at the Erie Municipal Airport. The majority of the funding for this project will be from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Colorado Division of Aeronautics. Due to the Federal Funding for the project, the FAA requires that the Town of Erie have a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program established in accordance with regulation of the U. S. Department of Transportation.
The DBE Program for the SRE Building will encourage the development and use of companies owned and controlled by minorities, women, and socially and economically disadvantaged individuals on this federally-aided construction project. These companies can be contractors, suppliers, or manufacturers with capabilities in the construction industry.
Under this program, select contracts are assigned percentage goals for participation by certified DBE firms. The goals are based on the total dollar amount of the contract. The prime contractor must meet the assigned DBE percentage goal or prove that sufficient good faith efforts were made in an attempt to meet the goal.
