SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
In the 2016 budget the Board of Trustees authorized $45,500.00 for the purchase of new and replacement fitness equipment for the Erie Community Center (ECC). Staff has determined that two treadmills and one step mill are in need of replacement based on the following criteria:
* Age - the equipment to be replaced is over 8 years old, standard commercial fitness equipment life span is 5-10 years for treadmills and 5-7 years for step mills
* Mileage/Run Hours - the mileage on the treadmills and run hours on the step mill are higher than the normal useful life span due to the high usage experienced at the Erie Community Center
* Repairs - repair parts are becoming obsolete, and cost of he estimated repairs in 2016 will exceed the current depreciated value of approximately $300 for the treadmills and $525 for the step mill
Staff reviewed the following fitness equipment brands:
* Precor
* Startrac
* Cybex
* Life Fitness
Based on research, experience, and guest feedback, staff identified Life Fitness Integrity Series Treadmill and PowerMill as the preferred model for the replacement units. In the commercial fitness industry, the LifeFitness deck and frame are durable, last much longer, and can take more abuse than other brands in the industry.
