SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

Chapter 5, Title 4 of the Town of Erie Municipal Code includes provisions for contractor licensing. The existing code contains outdated code references, a low requirement for liability insurance, and minimum examination requirements. The updated Ordinance increases the minimum insurance contractors must maintain and requires completion of ICC national standard examination requirements applicable for the level of license requested by the contractor. These changes further promote public health, safety and welfare by requiring contractors who do business in Erie to meet specified minimum requirements.
