SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The 2018 General Fund Streets Operating Budget includes funds for annual street maintenance services. Included in the 2018 budget is services for pavement marking removal. Each year a contractor provides street striping services throughout the Town. With each layer of striping added, the height of the striping is higher than previous (similar to painting over walls in your house). As the striping gets taller, it creates a lip that the snow plows can catch and chip a section of the striping off the roadway surface.

In January, the Board renewed the striping services contract with Road Safe Traffic Systems to apply annual striping throughout the Town. Staff requested a bid from Road Safe Traffic Systems, for the pavement marking removal. Using the same contractor will allow more efficient and safer coordination for removal of existing and application of new striping.

Project Budget Summary

                     Contract                     $226,200.00

                     Contingency                     $  20,800.00

                     Total                     $247,000.00

Staff has reviewed the bid and found it to be acceptable.  Road Safe Traffic Systems has successfully performed this work for the Town previously.  Staff recommends award of services contract to Road Safe Traffic Systems.
