SUMMARY/KEY POINTS
Loving Day recognizes the historic Supreme Court decision of Loving vs. Virginia in 1967.
• Until 1957, the State of Colorado banned interracial marriages between white and black residents;
• Richard and Mildred Loving were natives of the Central Point area of Caroline County, Virginia who were arrested in 1958 for violating Virginia's felony law against interracial marriage
• the Lovings fought their way to the United States Supreme Court and nine years later, on June 12, 1967, their conviction was overturned and all anti-miscegenation laws nationwide ended in as case known as Loving vs. Virginia.
