SUMMARY/KEY POINTS

Loving Day recognizes the historic Supreme Court decision of Loving vs. Virginia in 1967.

                     Until 1957, the State of Colorado banned interracial marriages between white and black residents;

                     Richard and Mildred Loving were natives of the Central Point area of Caroline County, Virginia who were arrested in 1958 for violating Virginia's felony law against interracial marriage

                     the Lovings fought their way to the United States Supreme Court and nine years later, on June 12, 1967, their conviction was overturned and all anti-miscegenation laws nationwide ended in as case known as Loving vs. Virginia.
