SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The Town has taken a proactive approach to budgeting annually for the replacement of outdated playground equipment located in our neighborhood park system, which has 13 parks maintained by the Parks and Open Space Division. This replacement method ensures residents have access to safe and relevant play equipment within a walkable distance from their homes. The 2021 approved budget includes funds to replace playground equipment in Country Fields Park. This playground is 20 years old and meets the replacement criteria established by the Town's Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
To address the situation in Country Fields Park, staff recommends executing the agreement with Star Playgrounds to remove the outdated equipment and install a new playground. This project is scheduled to begin in late May and will be completed by mid-June.
The design for this playground has been a collaboration involving extensive input from the community, with responses and input from the online platform Engage Erie, the Town's social media platforms, recommendations from the Parks, Recreation, Open Space & Trails Master Plan, and insight from staff.
