SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Erie Police Department enjoys an excellent working relationship with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.  Erie Police Officers serve on the Boulder County Drug Task Force and SWAT team.  The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office provides Victim Advocacy for all Erie residents. Erie Police Officers and Boulder County Sheriff’s Deputies frequently assist each other, back each other on calls for service and respond to emergency calls when our own officers are not immediately available due to other calls for service.  This mutual aid agreement provides authority for the Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies to perform law enforcement functions while in the Town of Erie (both in Boulder County and Weld County).  The mutual aid agreement also provides authority for Erie Police Officers to perform law enforcement duties when requested in unincorporated Boulder County.  Finally, this mutual aid agreement, upon request from the Town Administrator, Mayor or Board of Trustees, allows the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office to provide emergency police services in the Town of Erie should the Erie Police Department Command Staff and/or a number of their commissioned members be involved in a catastrophic incident and be unable to perform their duties.
