SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

In April, the Board approved a Resolution to enter into an agreement with Lotus Engineering and Sustainability to develop the Town of Erie’s Sustainability Master Plan.

Over the past eight months, Lotus has held workshops with staff and the Sustainability Advisory Board, gained community input at the Erie Farmer’s Market, and held an open house at the Erie Community Center. The development of the Sustainability Master Plan would not be possible without the dedicated participation and support from Trustees, Town staff, the Advisory Board, representatives of various partner organizations and residents to contributed their suggestions and comments on the draft versions of the Master Plan.

The Master Plan is meant to serve as a guiding document, framework, and decision-making tool for future community sustainability planning and programming, by defining the sustainability strategies, actions, implementation timelines, and target towards which the community will strive. This five-year plan provides an outline and approach through which the community can protect natural resources, support the local economy and culture, and promote a sustainable lifestyle for residents and visitors.
