SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

SUMMARY: During the June 13, 2017 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the release of the Town of Erie Broadband Assessment and Feasibility Study Request for Proposals (RFP). Through this RFP process, the Town solicited proposals from consultants qualified to complete the Study with the intent of exploring a variety of options to serve the Next Generation broadband services needs of the Erie community.

The Town received four responses and selected Vantage Point Solutions, Inc. as our preferred consultant.

The approved 2017 Budget includes $65,000.00 for Consultation Services for a Municipal Broadband Assessment and Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: The July 12, 2016 Board of Trustees agenda included a General Business item for a "Municipal Broadband Discussion." During this discussion, the Board considered options with regards to Colorado Senate Bill 05-152, the bill that prohibits local government supporting either directly or indirectly advanced telecom services.

As part of the presentation, the Board was provided with a draft resolution which if approved would have submitted to the Town a Ballot Question for consideration at the November 8, 2016 General Election concerning whether the eligible electors of the Town...
