The policy consideration before Council is whether to expend budgeted funds for traffic detection equipment intended. Town Council must approve expenditures of this level per the purchasing policy.

SUMMARY/KEY POINTS

                     Provide updated traffic detection equipment for the Erie Parkway and WCR 5 corridors.

                     This equipment will be utilized to collect enhanced traffic data, support transit signal priority operations, improve safety for vulnerable roadway users, and enhance the optimization and coordination of signal timing throughout the transportation network.

 

BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Transportation Division is working to improve the existing traffic signal detection system to better serve the needs of the growing community. Following multiple demonstrations and evaluations with leading detection system providers, NoTraffic has been identified as an industry leader based on the performance of its detection equipment, advanced data processing capabilities, and strong customer support. Their system aligns well with both the current operational needs and the Town’s long-term transportation goals.
