BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The Erie Police Department and the St. Vrain Valley School District jointly developed a School Resource Officer (SRO) Program to provide a school-based approach to fostering a positive relationship between students and police officers and to help prevent youth delinquency, alcohol and substance abuse, and gang involvement. SRO programs are effective in promoting a positive relationship between the police, faculty, students, and parents in preventing delinquency and promoting school safety.
On Oct. 27, 2020, the Town of Erie and the St. Vrain Valley School District RE-1J entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement for a Joint School Resource Officer Program.
The attached amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement amends the financial responsibilities of the Town and the School District to account for an increase in salaries and a decrease in cost for benefits for the officers assigned to each school.
