SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) recently suffered a most unexpected drop in membership. In late January 2024, SAB had only three (3) members remaining with two (2) of those members terms expiring in April of this year.
The Sustainability Advisory Board works alongside the Tree Advisory Board in planning and holding events like Arbor Day and Earth Day in the spring of each year. The two (2) advisory boards hold several joint meetings beginning in February of each year to begin preparation for these events.
The Town Clerk’s Office began their even year recruitment period in mid-January 2024, with a scheduled closing of February 9, 2024. Prior to the closing of the recruitment period, SAB asked to appoint four (4) new members from the applications received to date. At their February 7, 2024, meeting, SAB reviewed and discussed five(5) of the seven (7) applications received (two (2) of the applications were from current board members whose terms are expiring).
The SAB members agreed to recommend the following as new members of the Sustainability Advisory Board.
• Alex Arnold for a term of 4 years beginning on March 1, 2024 and ending on February 29, 2028
• Mackenzie Fernandez for a term of 4 years beginning on March 1, 2024 and ending on February 29, 2028
• Justin Benore for a term of 2 years beginning on March 1, 2024 and ending on February 28, 2026
• Karen Winkler for a term of 2 years beginning on March 1, 2024 and ending on February 28, 2026
SAB will be reviewing additional applications received prior to the close of 2024 recruitment period to make recommendations to Council for the final two (2) advisory board members who will appointed at the April 23, 2024, regular meeting.
