SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The Erie Municipal Airport Economic Development Study was completed in September 2009, with help from Boyd Group International. The study identified new development and employment opportunities at and around Erie Municipal Airport (EIK) which are compatible with airport operations and overall economic objectives of the Town and generate maximum economic benefit to the entire Town.
Though many of the recommendations made in that report are still relevant today, this updated study allows the Town and the Airport Economic Development Advisory Board (AEDAB) to examine the relevance of the previously identified opportunities and identify additional improvements and/or development opportunities. This updated study also incorporates public input gathered through a community survey that asked residents what services or amenities the Erie community wants to see at the airport, and how to best catalyze economic development in and around EIK. Lastly, this study reviews FAA/CDOT reports and financial data to calculate the economic impact of EIK to the Town of Erie, both direct tax revenue and indirect financial benefits.
