FISCAL SUMMARY:

High level funding concept will be presented, no fiscal impact at this time.

The current size of the Police facility is inadequate to support the needs of the Police Department as the Town continues to grow. Expansion is required and the space concept plan being presented supports the expected growth while being mindful of the Town’s fiscal resources.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

To proceed from space planning to design of an expanded police facility at the location of the current building.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

On June 23, 2023, the Town entered into a Professional Services Agreement with Wold Architects and Engineers for a Facility Master Plan Update and Pre-Design Services for the Erie Police Department and Leon A. Wurl Service Center. Since then, a Core Planning Team (CPT) with staff from various departments was established to begin the pre-design work on the Police Department Expansion. Expanding the police department facility continues to be the highest priority to address, ensuring the department can operate effectively and safely as the Town grows. Tonight’s presentation is a status update for this design process.

Next Steps

With the Council’s support of the concepts and funding option presented, staff will begin the RFP process for Architectural Design Services for the Town of Erie Police Department Addition/Remodel project. A request for funding of the design will be included as part of the first supplemental budget request to Council.
