SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

The Amended 2016 Budget includes funds to purchase a new vehicle tracking system for Town units.  Phase 1 of this system will be installed on 16 units which complete various tasks including snow plowing and maintenance activities.  The ultimate plan is to include on all Town units.

Some of the benefits of this system include receiving real-time data as units are performing work, which will aid in customer service when responding to citizen concerns during snow plowing season; help optimize routes for plowing; aid in more efficient tracking of driver logs and materials used during a snow season.  Outside of snow season, the same process can be used to optimize meter reading, street sweeping, hydrant flushing, sewer jetting, and utility locate routes and receive more efficient data for calculating annual totals for reporting of workload and supplies needed.

Staff is recommending awarding the purchase contract to Precise Mobile Resource Management in the amount of $13,390. Precise is the supplier for all Force America units.  The Town has Force America hydraulic systems on the large units. It is in the best interest of the Town to continue with this vendor.
