SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
The Town of Erie Sustainability Plan was adopted in 2019 and includes multiple goals for addressing the impacts from climate change. There are goals related to many different climate action features including increased electrification for appliances and vehicles, conservation of water resources, limiting waste headed to landfills, and more. One important aspect is the proper disposal and recycling of hazardous materials.
The plan outlines specific ways to partner with regional neighbors and other organizations to complete these lofty goals. The Town of Erie has been partners with both Boulder and Weld counties and their hazardous materials facilities for years. This allows residents to drop off household hazardous materials for reuse and proper recycling while avoiding sending these materials to the landfill. This month, the Erie Rotary will be hosting a one-time paint recycling event which will also support these important diversion goals. The Town of Erie supports this event and similar partner events and encourages residents to participate.
