SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
June marks Pride Month, commemorating the 1969 Stonewall Inn uprising in Manhattan, New York, which propelled the LGBTQ+ movement for equity, legal protections, and freedom from discrimination. The first Pride event, Christopher Street Liberation Day, took place on June 28, 1970, in honor of this pivotal moment.
This year, we celebrate the resilience and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, recognizing their strength amidst ongoing challenges. On May 31, 2023, President Joe Biden issued proclamations acknowledging the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirming the commitment to equality and inclusion for all.
June 2024 marks the 50th Anniversary of Pride being celebrated in Colorado. This year highlights the importance of solidarity, allyship, and intersectionality within the LGBTQ+ community. We stand together against discrimination and violence, affirming the rights of every individual to live authentically and with dignity, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
As we celebrate Pride Month, let us continue to champion equality, advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, and build a more inclusive society for all.
