SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

Throughout 2023, the Planning Commission lost four (4) members.  Due to the significant loss in membership, Town Council felt it necessary to appoint new members as soon as possible to fill the vacant seats.  On August 29, 2023, four (4) new members were selected to fill the vacancies with one (1) new member filling a term that ends in 2026 and three (3) new members filling terms that end in 2024.

Since these appointments were made, Planning staff has spent numerous hours engaging with and training the Planning Commission.  These efforts have brought all members to the same understanding and knowledge needed to ensure that the direction of the Commission is on tract.

With that being said, the Planning Commission along with Planning staff have asked that the three (3) new members whose terms end in 2024, be reappointed to new 4-year terms that end on April 30, 2028.  By doing so, the Planning Commission can continue the work they’ve started over the past seven to eight months without having to pause to train new members.
