POLICY ISSUES:
Necessary transit improvements include annexing 765 Cheesman Street, which is currently owned by the Town of Erie, into the Regional Transportation District's (RTD) service boundary. RTD requires a petition and legal description of property to be submitted to RTD's Board of Directors for annexation consideration.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Approve resolution to authorize Town Mayor to execute petition for inclusion of the Town own property at 765 Cheesman Street into the RTD.
End

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
By the direction of the Town Council's Legislative Agenda, staff is working to improve transit service within Erie. One step to expanding transit service to the community is through annexation of Town properties into the RTD. Several individual sites and neighborhoods in Weld County are not currently in the RTD boundary, including all of Erie's Old Town. As a result, the 765 Cheesman Street property is not within the RTD boundary and has no transit service to or near the property. The Cheesman property will be developed with 35 affordable ownership residences. Those living in affordable housing typically need transit services to access daily activities. This annexation will provide transit to the development and the future residents.

Annexing the property will come at no cost to the Town.
