POLICY ISSUES:

Numerous crashes occur on US 287 and as a result, the roadway has become a major traffic safety concern. Boulder County partnered with local municipalities along US 287 and completed a study to address the crashes on the corridor. The next steps are to secure funding for the recommendations in the study.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

US 287 is one of the deadliest roads in Boulder County. The US 287 Safety Study project analyzed the corridor, identified areas of concern, and provided recommendations. One of the recommendations is to construct a median barrier down the center line on portions of the corridor. This will address the multiple head-on collisions along the corridor. This effort aligns with safety improvements in the County’s Vision Zero Plan as well as the Town of Erie’s Transportation & Mobility Plan.
