SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:
Arbor Day was originally started in Nebraska by J. Sterling Morton in 1872, whose vision helped transform a treeless plain into a landscape with millions of trees statewide. Other states soon followed and created Arbor Day designations and proclamations. By the 1880’s schools and municipalities were celebrating the event nationwide.
The Town of Erie plans to celebrate its 26th Arbor Day Celebration on April 27. The Town and the Erie Tree Board invite residents to share in the celebration which will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Erie Community Park. Planned activities include hands-on tree planting, activities for children, raffle, prizes, food trucks, and educational information.
